Have You Heard of the Tummy Tub?

our 4 month old daughter

our 4 month old daughter

A few months ago I got my hands on a  Tummy Tub. It kind of  looks like a big punch bowl, except it is a baby bath which is supposedly good from birth to 3 years.

According to their site, “The Tummy Tub is designed to replicate the comfort of the mother’s womb and once in the Tummy Tub, babies naturally adopt the fetal position and instantly feel reassured and relaxed. Created in Holland, the Tummy Tub has been endorsed by maternity hospitals, physicians, midwives throughout Europe.”

I have to admit that I wasn’t so impressed with the looks of the Tub, and kept it in storage until our daughter seemed sturdy enough to use it. She is a real peanut, and only 11 lbs at 4 months. My whole opinion changed the minute I put our 4 month old in the tub. She was so… happy, calm and so… darn cute.

The other day, our daughter was so unhappy. She is teething and miserable, and nothing could calm her down. I decided to try the Tummy Tub again, and the minute we immersed her, she stopped crying and was comfortable.

This Tub is definitely worth the $40 it retails for.

The Coolest Baby Product of 2010…The mamaRoo!!!

May 14, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

IMG_0682I just received our mamaRoo, made by 4moms. I have been anxiously awaiting it’s arrival for weeks, and it was worth it. Last night when my 3 week old was up from 4am to 6am, I kept thinking, when is my mamaRoo going to arrive. HOORAY!!IMG_0681

This is the COOLEST most AMAZING product I have ever seen for babies. It’s not a swing or a bouncer, it is a futuristic “baby spacecraft” that moves like mom. It has 5 unique motions: car ride, kangaroo, tree swing, rock-a bye, and ocean wave. Our daughter loves the car ride, and I love not actually having to be out in the middle of the night driving around a colicky baby. Each motion can be adjusted to the right speed for your baby. The mamaRoo also comes with 5 sounds of nature, but what I love most is that you can connect your MP3 player to it .

If exposing baby to wonderful music isn’t enough, the mamaRoo also comes with Plush toy balls decorated in the style of Van Gogh, Monet, and Seurat. Black and white on one side for infants. Color on the other side for older babies. They easily pop in and out of the mobile so babies can chew and or study them.

This is a must have for every new parent. It’s worth the splurge at $200. It is a reasonable price considering you can take that swing and bouncer off your registry.

New Baby New Breastpump

April 27, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

hygeia-enjoye-extIMG_0495Our new Baby Bodyguards’s baby was born on April 19th 9:40 pm. After spending the day at a children’s carnival with our son, I went to take a nap, and POP! my water broke. Off to the hospital we went, and 31 hours, 3 pushes later, out little girl was born.

I researched breastpumps before the birth, because I used the Medela Pump in Style, with our first baby, and although it worked just fine in the beginning, I felt it fizzled out after a while and after calling the hotline and replacing all the membranes, and tubing etc, still no luck. I was kind of dismayed to then realize it only had a 1 year warranty.

I wanted to try something new, and that is when I came across Enjoye by Hygeia. I contacted them and they sent me a pump to test out for this blog post.

The Enjoye is a hospital grade pump and  has some pretty cool and unique features such as:

  • Proven performance for working moms with long-term and frequent pumping needs. Plus, your satisfaction is guaranteed
  • Usually more affordable than other rental pumps
  • More portable and convenient than other rental pumps
  • Features the unique Hygeia CARE Button for Customized, Audio, Recording, Experience so you can record your baby or other sound to enhance your breastpumping experience
  • Offers single or double pumping flexibility
  • Electric or battery operation with the included internal battery pack. The rechargeable battery is ideal for battery-dependent pumpers
  • Green Breastpump, Can be shared by multiple mothers when each has her own personal accessory set
  • Recycle the EnJoye when you no longer need it. See recycling instructions.
  • Mimics your baby’s unique suckling patterns with customizable speed and pressure controls
  • Safe, because all parts that come into contact with breastmilk are
    BPA/DEHP Free

I was very pleased to learn about Hygeia’s 3 year warranty. That is one of the longest in the industry.

I have used the Enjoye twice so far, and so far so good. I am able to get just as much milk as with the Pump in Style in it’s glory days, but find the suction action to be a lot more comfortable and similar to my babies feeding pattern.

The Enjoye is also very reasonable priced, between $219 and $299, and very lightweight.

I have only used this pump twice, but it is off to an awesome start. I will be updating again to let you all know how this pans out.

Spring Cleaning/Nesting

April 4, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

Sun_Earth_OnlineSo I am 37 weeks pregnant and going insane with the to-do list in my head. Every time I wake up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, I come up with another task to add to my list (actually, usually Fred’s list). When I was nesting before the birth of our first child, I had so….. much more time. I must have washed his layette three times before he actually wore anything.

This weekend’s to-do list consisted of washing all of our soon to be daughter’s newborn and 0-3 month clothing, along with getting the cradle and swing out of the basement and cleaning off all the dust and debris from the construction we had done earlier in the year. What made these tasks all the more fun, was that I was going to get to experiment with a new product line I had heard so much about Sun & Earth.

Sun and Earth makes safe, natural and non-toxic cleaning products.  All of their laundry products and cleaning products are free of petroleum based cleaners, chlorine, phosphates, dyes and perfumes that leave behind residue that could be harmful to your family, children and pet’s health.

I washed the layette using their Free and Clear Unscented Laundry Detergent. It did a great job. I happen to be one that loves scents, so then I did the rest of the family’s laundry using Sun & Earth 2x Concentrated Laundry Detergent. I am now obsessed with the stuff. It has the most delightful citrus scent derived from orange oil. The laundry came out with just a subtle hint of citris. It’s FANTASTIC!!!!! I then proceeded his to wash every linen in the house, just for more of this orange essence.

I then moved on to cleaning the dust and debris (When I say I , I mean Fred, I observed) off the cradle and swing using Sun & Earth All Purpose Spray Cleaner. It has the same wonderful orange scent and cleaned better than any major natural brands I have ever used minus the harsh chemicals. With a price tag of $4, how can you go wrong.

All of Sun & Earth’s products can be purchased on their website, and are less money than most national brands. Trust me, it is worth a try, you will become a Sun & Earth junkie like me, and save some money too.

Tend-A-Tot, 6 in 1 Tote

February 11, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

One of my favorite connections i have made through Twitter, is Elizabeth VouVakis, mother to five, grandmother to ten, and inventor extraordinaire. She has never been a stay in one place kind of mom, and wanted to invent a product to help moms on the go provide nurture, comfort and security and she has succeeded with the Tend-A-Tot!

The Tend-A-Tot, serves as astylish diaper bag, baby sling, Insta-Seat, Umbrella Stroller upgrade, shopping cart cover, and high chair cover. With 100’s of patterns to chooses from ( I have the Stained Glass Window Print) there is definitely a pattern to suit every fashionista. What I really like best is how unique the Tend-A-Tot is. Everywhere I go , I get asked about it, it is a real conversation piece.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on all different gear, I think it is great to just have one product that serves many purposes, and doesn’t take up too much room in my New York City living space. Ranging in price from $199 to $299, it is a bargain, and can be used from infancy to 3 years old..

The Infant Tub of All Infant Tubs

February 5, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

With baby # 2 expected this April, I have been on a quest to find the latest and greatest of baby gear, that wasn’t around a few years ago when our son was born. My nesting instinct has kicked in, and last weekend, while cleaning out our basement, I came across our old mediocre infant tub, that was all dirty and worn. I added infant tub to my list of must haves for our new bundle of joy.

Boy was I surprised how the infant tub has changed! There are Spa Tubs, Euro Tubs, Foam Tubs, etc etc. The tub that caught my eye as the Tub of all Tubs is The Cleanwater Infant Tub by 4Moms. Their slogan is “if you spent a day in diapers, you’d want one too.” Brilliant!

The Cleanwater Infant Tub comes equip with a built in thermometer, rinse cup and clean water reservoir. There is hole in the side of the tub, so that cold, dirty water can drain out, while clean and perfectly warm water can flow in.

The tub is suitable for up to 25 lbs or babies up to 6 months old. Once a baby can sit up, this tub has run its course. It fits in single and double basin sinks.

We had Susan from Baby Bodyguards, try it out with her 3 month old, and she said it was “so cool and easy to use” , she really liked the built in thermometer feature.

The Cleanwater Infant Tub is available at stores like  Babies R Us, Target, as well as smaller specialty stores. You can enter your zip code on the site and it will tell you the store nearest you. The tub retails for about $40.

Epicuren Baby Daily Lotion

January 22, 2010 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

I had been hearing a lot of great things about the Episencial-Epicuren Baby Line, and was lucky enough to get my dry Winter beaten hands on their Baby Daily Lotion. I was really impressed with the lotion. It went on smoothly and was not greasy at all.

I was going to wait to review the lotion until our baby girl is born, but our son’s skin was so dry and rashy, i decided I couldn’t hold out and slathered him up in Epicuren. He has very sensitive skin and Epicuren uses 100% natural ingredients that are 75% organic. It’s great on sensitive skin!

I am a huge Anne Geddes fan, and Epicuren is made in association with her. Her photographs are on the packaging and are just too cute.

Boogie Wipes Work Wonders on Crusty Noses

December 8, 2009 · Filed Under BBG Product Reviews

Cold and flu season is upon us, and my almost 3 year old has what seems like an endless runny nose, which he is constantly rubbing on his sleeve, my sleeve, our couch, and the occasional tissue. It has gotten so bad that his nose is all crusty, and he fights me everytime I try to clean him up.

When my son was an infant, I would put saline drops in his nose, and use a humidifier at the first sign of a cold. It is not so easy to get the drops in his nose these days, which is why I was thrilled when I discovered Boogie Wipes!

Boogie Wipes are made with saline and actually dissolve boogies. Baby Bodyguards approves of Boogie Wipes because they are:

-Made with Natural Saline to Dissolve Mucus

-Hypoallergenic

-Alcohol Free

-Moisturize with Vitamin E, Aloe and Chamomile

-Fun Scents Kids Love

-Gentle Enough for All Ages

-and Phthalate & Paraben Free

At a few bucks a pack, these wipes are a must for cold and flu season!
